This week we take a look at the power of mobile in the healthcare industry. “Top 5 Reasons the Future of Healthcare Will Be Mobile” discusses the evolution of the mobile phone and how these phones will propel us and our healthcare providers into a new dimension that allows for better, faster, and stronger contextual communication.
Melissa Thompson points out that the future of healthcare success will be centered around the adoption of mobile and the connection it provides between patients and their providers. In today’s healthcare environment, healthcare organizations are looking for programs that both reduce costs and improve remote patient care. Technology is important, but more important is how to adapt that technology, in-the-moment, for use by patients, members, and client. A smart strategy is to present mobile as a personal concierge, one that connects with the patient in-the-moment and offers them content that enhances their life.
Our smartphones hold incredible power and functionality. We no longer have to dig through our belongings to find our single-year-day planners. We don’t have to go to the pharmacy to drop off film to see our photos, order double prints, place a set of prints in a photo album, and mail a set to our families in order to “share.” We no longer even risk losing our contact lists and schedules since we can storage information in the cloud. Technology has placed our camera, GPS, calendar, our entire record collection, game system, entertainment system, enough online shopping to replace the local mall, and oh, yes, telephone in a gadget not much larger than on old cassette tape.
